Buying An Affordable Baby Crib For First Time Mothers

Bedding for your new baby isn’t going to be cheap. Even if you buy used, there is plenty of markup in baby beds. You must navigate your way around all the inflated prices, find a baby bed that is comfortable and with many features, and finally find a solution for your baby to sleep on.

Buying used is perfectly fine if you are looking to save money. Baby beds only consist of a mattress and a smaller frame, and there are plenty of families all around that have baby beds to give or sell. Charity programs also sell baby cribs at incredibly discounted rates, although the quality of the baby bed may be debated. When possible, buy a new bed to avoid frustration.

You can buy two main types of baby cribs: those with stationary sides and those that have a drop-down side. The drop-down side is useful for a mother that isn’t tall enough to handle the baby while putting him or her to bed. At the same time, it can pose a risk as it could become unsecured and potentially allow the baby to fall out of the crib.

Baby cribs with wheels attached are a must. You will move the baby crib much more often than you would probably think. New parents frequently change the look of the nursery, or change it to a new room entirely. Most new mothers like to have the baby crib in the same room for several weeks or months just to make sure that nothing happens.

Be careful when painting the baby crib by yourself. It is perfectly fine to paint the baby crib, so long as you let the paint fumes air out and also ensure the paint is not toxic. Non-toxic paints will clearly be labeled at the store. Double check to be sure there is no lead content in the paint, that could potentially harm the health of your baby if ingested.

A baby mattress is another thing to consider for your crib. Separate from the frame, the mattress will determine how well the baby sleeps. If the mattress is more expensive, you can bet it is much softer to the touch and more appealing for the baby. Just like adults, babies will sleep better when they sleep on a mattress that is comfortable. Otherwise babies may seem more cranky than they usually are, or less able to sleep.

Final Thoughts

Your new baby will need a place to call his or her own. A baby crib can be expensive, but also remember that your money goes a long way. Sometimes paying more for a baby crib is the better choice in helping your baby grow up strong and healthy.

Advice For Hosting Your Own Baby Shower Celebration

Baby showers are a wonderful event that lets an expecting mother receive much-needed gifts, but also interact with friends and keep close bonds tight. If you are the host of a baby shower, you must make sure that every simple detail is perfect to make the day special.

Food is the easiest way to save money. Instead of getting catered, like some do, you can ask each person to bring some type of food. It doesn’t have to be extravagant- just something that is easy to fix and something that everyone will enjoy. Be sure to suggest certain things so everyone does not bring the same dish to your baby shower.

Party favors are useful for when you want to give your guests a little extra something for attending. After all, they are going out of their way to make sure that the expecting mother has all the things she needs to start off the new life as a parent. Inexpensive party favors are just fine, with a simple card to hand out being a good choice. More expensive favors might include picture frames or custom gifts.

Gifts for the mother will all be appreciated, no matter what they are. As long as you put thought into your gift, the mother is sure to enjoy the thoughts of every attendee. If you don’t have much money to spare, instead consider baking cookies or other baked goods and bringing them over. A simple card will also do, but be sure to write a personal note to wish the mother luck.

Keep in mind that having a baby shower at one’s own home is perfectly acceptable. Some hosts like to have the party at a local center, bowling alley, or other entertaining venue to make the event more exciting. That is nice for the attendants, but is not necessary and is often less personal. Save money by having the event at a personal setting, and create your own decorations or use inexpensive decorations that you find at a local convenience store.

Remember to plan games as well- the baby shower should be fun for everyone! Get everyone in on the act of having fun, telling stories, and even give out a few prizes to spur excitement. A room full of ladies and a good list of games is hours of entertainment. Some popular game ideas might include guessing the size of the expecting mothers stomach, or even different spins on classic games such as Pin The Tail on The Donkey.

Closing Comments

Good luck in planning your baby shower. You don’t need to go all out to have fun, and remember, that the shower is for the mother’s benefit. Make the mother feel at home, loved, and feel like she can count on her friends during her time of need in parenting the growing baby.

The Olian maternity clothing range has beautiful and stylish clothing to get you through your pregnancy.

The designer behind the lovely Olian Maternity clothing is Lili del Cueto. From humble beginnings cutting out designs on her parents’ floor, she has become a huge success stocking more than 500 boutiques with her stylish clothing. Summarizing The Benefits Of The Breast Pump

February 16, 2010 by Shawne B. Patrick

It is unanimously concluded in the medical profession that breast-feeding is the best choice for your baby. The health and bonding benefits are unrivalled by anything man has managed to develop. With that in mind, we also know that there will be times that a mummy cannot be with her baby. Sometimes it’s going to be work related, other times it might be for medical reasons. Regardless of what the explanation, if we will leave a little milk for our kids, they will be getting the best while we are away if we use a breast pump to express milk for them in our absence.

Many different styles of pumps have been developed. We now have the option of manual, battery, or electrical rope powered machines.

The manual pump is generally much cheaper than the other models. They are perfect for the girl that only needs to pump sometimes. They are going to be lightweight and a good beginning pump for the first time mom. Sometimes it could be a small uncomfortable starting on a pump. Using a manual one will help moms adjust slowly, till they feel prepared to take on an electric pump.

Battery and corded versions of the machine are much faster and may come with dual-sided attachments cutting the 10-15 mins per side of usual time in half. Many corded versions are also battery-powered. They are far more convenient when you are uncertain if you’ll have power at your disposal. They may require some getting used to at first but will be worth owning if you’ll be pumping often.

When picking out your new breast pump, keep in mind the uses it will have. Most will be totally travel friendly, but you will want to know the noise level created. It could be a little ungainly to try and pump at work and know that your co-workers are hearing every sound. By checking the loudness of the machine, you will be able to pump with confidence.

Also, check for easy assembly. You’ll need to be able to put it together with tiny difficulty. Most have proven to be user-friendly, just make sure you are happy with the process of choosing breast pumps ahead of time.

Trying to Get Pregnant After a Miscarriage

February 15, 2010 by Tammy Richardson

It can be a daunting thing to think about getting pregnant after miscarriage because of the fear of a second recurrence. Medically referred to as ’spontaneous abortion’ a miscarriage is the loss of a pregnancy before about twenty weeks growth. Statistics from the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, miscarriages will happen in around 25 percent of all known pregnancies. In real terms this rate is probably higher, as many miscarriages occur in the very early stages of pregnancy before a woman is even aware she is pregnant.

The reasons behind miscarriage are not yet fully understood. In general miscarriages in the first trimester are attributed to the presence of chromosomal abnormalities in the foetus (which are randomly occurring).

Of course the state of the mother’s health also plays a part. There are a number of medical conditions which may increase the likelihood of miscarriage, such as some autoimmune diseases, untreated diabetes and any structural problems in the uterus (this can inhibit proper implantation of the egg). A woman’s (and prior to conception, a man’s too) lifestyle choices can also affect the likelihood of miscarriage – things like drug abuse or smoking can play their part. There are also a large number of miscarriages which are the result of the egg not being implanted in the uterus correctly – thankfully this can be corrected by knowing the most appropriate times of the month for successful conception, but more on that later.

There are a number of signs that may precede a miscarriage including lower back pain and cramps in the abdomen and pelvis as well as fluid or tissue and blood coming from the vagina. Bleeding usually precedes all early miscarriages, however many pregnant women experience blood spotting and some bleeding in early pregnancy, so it is not always a sign of miscarriage.

The vast majority of miscarriage in early pregnancy will not need medical attention because the uterus expels its contents as if it was a heavy menstrual period. In cases where tissue remains inside and shows up on an ultrasound, then a cleansing procedure, or medication may be required to make sure all the residual tissue is expelled. It is important that no tissue remains in the uterus in order to stop any infection forming. It is best if couples do not try getting pregnant after miscarriage for at least a couple of months, six months is best. If recurring miscarriages are a problem, then there are tests that can be done to see if they can determine the cause.

It is important before going out and getting any of these (sometimes painful) tests, that you make sure that the improper implantation of the egg into the uterine lining is not the cause. This can be reduced to a huge extent by knowing the correct times in the months for having intercourse and conceiving.

This time is when there is a cervical fluid which has the resemblance of eggwhites, which is the woman’s most fertile time of the month. When the man has a normal sperm count, then the couple should have intercourse every day of the eggwhite cervical fluid and should only cease once a rise in basal temperature is noticed in the woman. If there is a problem with sperm count, then it is important that intercourse is only undertaken every second day of the fertile cervical fluid up until a rise in temperature is noted. Intercourse at this time will increase the likelihood of conception, as well as lowering the chances of miscarriage due to an improper implantation of the egg in the lining of the uterus.

Pre-pregnancy preparation is also important, so your health must be attended to. It is important to make sure you are eating right, are keeping your weight in a healthy range and are getting enough exercise. Quitting cigarettes and not being around other people’s smoke is also important. Alcohol is a big no-no and caffeine is on the cut list too. Awareness of your external environment and any toxins you may be exposed to are also important – painting the house is out, unless ‘green’ paints are used, and carpeting should be avoided, as new carpets are often laced with formaldehyde. Importantly for getting pregnant after miscarriage, you have to remember to look at lifestyle factors like stress and emotional worries, and try to have intercourse at the appropriate time of the month.

Problem Getting Pregnant?

February 13, 2010 by Tammy Richardson

If you are experiencing a problem getting pregnant, then understanding the intricacies of what it takes to achieve a fertilised egg is of prime importance.

When a woman is ovulating and the egg is expelled from the ovarian wall it will be picked up by the waiting fallopian tube. The end of the fallopian tube, called the fimbria will grab the egg within seconds of its release and pull it properly inside the fallopian tube. If an is not fertilised it will only remain alive for a maximum of twenty four hours after which it dies and is absorbed by the body, or it disintegrates and comes out with the flow of the menstrual period. To put things in scale, the egg is about as big as the punctuation mark at the end of this sentence.

If on the other hand an egg does get fertilised it happens within a couple of hours after ovulation, and will happen while the egg is in the fallopian tube. Contrary to popular belief, fertilisation does not take place in the uterus. It can take even a couple of hours for the sperm to reach the egg in the fallopian tubes. Once an egg has been fertilised there are vibrating, tiny hairs called cilia which draw the egg back into the uterus. The fertilised ovum will reach its final destination and begin to burrow into the nutritious lining of the uterus after about one week of ‘travelling’ to reach there.

If you are experiencing a problem getting pregnant then you need to remember that there are three things that make a pregnancy happen, not just the sperm and egg – the third ingredient is a safe medium for them both to travel is, as without this conduit the vagina is a very hostile environment for the little sperms to tackle.

This medium which affords safe passage to the sperm and egg is an eggwhite-like cervical fluid which is especially fertile. It is this cervical fluid which will allows the sperm to travel to the cervix in safety and unite with the waiting egg. This amazing fertile mucus is produced with rising levels of oestrogen in the first part of the cycle, and is at its best at the time of ovulation. This fertile fluid allows sperm to survive inside for as long as five days – so its completely possible that a naughty night out on Saturday can get you pregnant at your office desk on Wednesday!

As it would be a total disaster for a pregnant body if the lining of the uterus were to disintegrate as it usually does in normal cycles, the body does an amazing trick and stops this from happening. The body will start to produce a hormone called Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) when a fertilised egg burrows into the uterus, which stops the lining from being discarded. It does this by sending a message to the ‘corpus luteum’ or the nourishing lining, and tells it to remain alive. The corpus luteum will continue to maintain itself for a couple of months till the placenta is ready to take over and the placenta will then maintain the lining as well as provide oxygen and nourishment to the growing foetus.

If you have ever received a false negative pregnancy test then it is because the test has been done too soon – these tests measure HCG in the blood or urine, and as it can sometimes take so long for an egg to burrow and start releasing the hormone, then the test will come back negative. When women chart their cycles, they are more likely to know when a pregnancy has occurred from the first point of implantation because of the notable changes in the cycle.

If a couple is having a problem getting pregnant, knowing the intricacies of what it takes to fertilise an egg can really help, especially as contrary to what every mum tells her teenage daughter, sometimes it actually isn’t that easy to get pregnant.

How New Mothers Choose Organic Baby Bedding

February 9, 2010 by Chris Channing

Baby cribs and baby crib bedding are extremely important for the first year or two of an infant’s life. This period of time requires lots of sleep and a comfortable place to do so.

The best way to go about purchasing a crib bedding set for a mother is by asking simple questions. Find out if she has already purchased one, or if someone else in the family or circle of friends is planning to. If neither is the case, then you can move forward with deciding on what to buy her. Talk to others to get an idea of what would be the best choice.

Most mothers save their child’s first blankets. For that reason, heirloom quality bedding can be a wonderful gift. These are usually able to last a long time and are made of high quality materials. Heirloom baby bedding is often given to the family by someone close to them, not just a casual friend. Consider this before making a purchase.

Of course, knowing what colors the parents prefer is key to finding the best set. Don’t get a blue bed set if the room is pink and the baby is a girl. Think in terms of coordination. By the time they have a baby shower; parents already know the sex and what they want the room to look like.

If you have the funds to do so, a nice luxury baby bedding set can be a marvelous gift. When looking at your options, choose something that is memorable and special. This will make a better gift so that when the child is older and eventually an adult, they can pass on their crib bedding to their first child. Designer baby bedding is expensive, but it is also a wonderful chance to pick out something special for the new family. As a general rule, the first child born should get this type of set, not a 2nd or 3rd child.

Lastly, safe bedding is very important for new babies. Ensuring that the materials are soft and gentle is very important. No one wants a set that will irritate the child’s sensitive skin and cause hives or itching. This is uncomfortable for the baby and mother! Chemical free bedding is always best.

Closing Comments

Bedding gifts are so customizable and easily tailored to the needs of the new family. The new baby may not understand who purchased it, but later on in life they will know just how special it was! Buying a crib set for the mother is also a big favor in terms of finances.
